ProBono.Org to host a workshop on spousal and parental maintenance

Probono.org will host a workshop on June 5, at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni.

ALBERTON – The purpose of the workshop is to provide the local community with access to quality legal advice, including information on basic laws and rights linked to maintenance issues which should be paid to spouses and children.

Attorney Bev Loubser from Bev Loubser Attorneys will lead the workshop, which will also include a question and answer session. The workshop comes in response to increasing incidents of parental and spousal neglect, including individuals completely absconding from their maintenance duties.

“The fact is that many children in South Africa have a parent who has actively chosen not to support them despite a legal obligation to do so,” said Advocate Elsabe Steenhuisen.

This workshop is just one of many ProBono.Org services which aims to link the poorest of the poor to legal services through a network of volunteer lawyers. The workshop will take place from 11:00 to 13:00 at the entrance hall of the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court and any community members with concerns regarding maintenance are encouraged to attend.
