Parents demand a principal

Upset parents marched from Eden Park SAPS to Eden Park Primary on Monday, June 8, to hand over a memorandum to an official from the Gauteng Department of Education and the school's governing body.

EDEN PARK – Many parents have alleged that the department is dragging its feet in appointing a new principal for the school, which is presently under two acting principals, namely Mrs M Phillips and Mr K Oliphant.

The former principal, I De Vries left the school in August 25, 2014, to take a position in Jeffrey’s Bay, and the post has been vacant since his departure.

One parent, Tasha White, said: “We, the parents want the department to appoint a principal as soon as possible and preferably a female one.”

A two-page memorandum was handed over to Mr J Vilakazi from the Gauteng Department of Education and the vice-chairman of the school’s governing body, Mr SR Myburgh.

The parents confirmed that their wish is to have a principal appointed at Eden Park Primary School when the school re-opens after the June holidays.
