Four killed in Vosloorus crash

At least four people were killed and eight others were left in a critical condition after a taxi overturned on the R103 near Diana Street in Vosloorus.

Paramedics from numerous services arrived on the scene where they found occupants of a taxi scattered across the road shortly after 11:00 on Saturday June 20.

It is understood that the occupants were ejected when the driver of the taxi allegedly lost control over the vehicle and it overturned multiple times.

According to ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak, “Paramedics found that four people sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that they could do for them. Eight people, including two children believed to be eight and nine years old, were critically injured.”

Medical helicopters were called to airlift the two injured children from the scene. Majority of the critically injured patients sustained severe fractures and suspected head injuries.

Vermaak explained, “It is understood that at least 18 people were in the taxi at the time of the collision. ER24 along with various services transported the injured to local hospitals in the area for further medical management.”

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known and will be investigated by the local authorities.
