Riding high

Tyla Nepgen is riding her Appaloosa gelding all the way to the top.

ALBERTON – Tyla Nepgen, a Grade Nine learner from Grace Trinity School for Girls, has been selected to compete in various disciplines at the SANESA Gauteng finals.

The competition will take place from August 8 to 10, at the Eaton Farm in Kyalami.

Tyla holds the 2015 Sedibeng regional record for the equestrian selected to compete in the most horse/rider combination classes.

She rides a young Appaloosa gelding and will represent Sedibeng in two dressage tests, working riding, equitation, in-hand utility and extreme equitation. The pair has also qualified to represent Gauteng in the new SANESA discipline, the English mounted games.

Felicia Rowan is Tyla’s riding instructor at Jod’s Riding Centre and gives her the opportunity to learn many disciplines instead of concentrating on one or two sections. There are 14 recognised horse-riding disciplines in South Africa and Felicia encourages riders to choose which discipline or disciplines best suit them and their horse.

Jod’s only recently became involved in the English mounted games, through a rider who had just returned from Kentucky with his five team mates after competing in the Mounted Games World Team Competition, where they placed third in their final.

At the fourth SANESA qualifier, held at Penbritte Equestrian Centre from July 17-19, Tyla won her section and her riding partner, Twane Burgers, also a learner from Grace Trinity, placed third in the same section.

Twane also received Sedibeng colours and will compete in dressage, prix caprilli, working riding, equitation and extreme equitation at the SANESA Gauteng finals.

“I am extremely proud of my riders’ achievements this past year. Both ride young horses and have exceeded my expectations in all aspects of the sport,” said Felecia.
