One on One opportunity
An Alberton based non-profit organisation helps learners improve their math and science marks.
ALBERTON – One on One Community Based Programmes is an Alberton-based non-profit organisation that builds partnerships with the private sector to bring extra math and science lessons to high school learners.
The organisation also hopes to facilitate workshops and conferences to encourage constructive debates and enhance skills development projects.
One on One founder and CEO, Doc Sethole, explained that he was motivated to begin the NPO after purchasing software and a computer to support his three sons in the development of their math and science skills. Doc said that he decided to create a way to support other learners in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.
Currently One on One works with developers to provide schools with MyLab kits that assist with the teaching and learning of science.
The NPO was honoured at the SABC Education African Eduweek with the 2015 basic education supplier of the year award.
The organisation runs projects in the Western Cape and Gauteng but hopes to extend its reach across the country. Doc said that he will extend the organisation’s local roots too.
