‘We are so glad the bridge is fixed’ – resident
The first pedestrians have used the Swartkoppies bridge on Tuesday, October 2
BRACKENHURST – A resident shared their excitement with the RECORD after the Swartkoppies bridge was reopened following extensive repairs which have taken years to complete.
The bridge was first damaged in 2011 when a truck collided with the structure. A section of the carriageway was dislodged and finally repaired in October this year.
The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, stated: “Our parents live close by and the only thing separating us from a nice walk over is the bridge.

“Having to go all the way around and cross Swartkoppies is so dangerous. Also, with my father being a cyclist, the bridge is convenient and safe for him. We are so glad its fixed now.”
The resident also thanked everyone involved in the process.
Member of Mayoral Committee for Roads and Transport, Petrus Mhlari, said: “It is important for vehicles to obey the load and height restrictions on our roads to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and motorists as well as damage to property.”
Mhlari also appeals to residents to assist in safeguarding the municipality’s infrastructure by reporting any pedestrian bridges that may have been tampered with, have missing railings or are damaged in any way, to the call center on 086 054 3000.
