URGENT: Renew your firearm license
Booysens SAPS continue to advise firearms owners to act swiftly.

BOOYSENS SAPS office would like to inform the community that the law is very clear concerning renewal of your firearm licence in the allocated time and those who have not done so will be seen as breaking the law.
According to the law owners of firearms are required to renew their firearms licences 90 days before the expiry date, and are liable to be fined as per the Firearm Act if they do not do so within that 90 days.
Booysens SAPS Spokesperson, Lorraine van Emmerik, informed the COURIER that the owners of firearms must contact their nearest police station and ensure that they renewed their licences to avoid consequences.
“Those residing in the Booysens SAPS areas such as Booysens, Reuven, Ormonde, Evans Park, Crown Gardens, Ridgeway, Robertsham, Winchester Hills, Gillview, Chrisville, Southdale, Ophirton, Lakeview, Booysens Reserve, Frampton, Theta, Crown Mines, Nasrec, Soccer City, Aeroton, Ormonde view, Robinson Deep, Haddon, Lindbergh Park, West Turffontein, Bellavista, Turffontein, Turf Club, Forest Hill, Kenilworth and the open area next to Nasrec, are encouraged to contact the Firearm Office on 011 433 5364 for any questions,” she wrote.
Licences’ validity varies:
Licence to possess a firearm for self defence – five years; licence to possess restricted firearm for self defence; two years, licences to possess firearm for occasional hunting and sports – 10 years; licence to possess firearm for dedicated hunting and dedicated sports-shoots – 10 years, licence to possess firearm in private collection – 10 years, permit to possess ammunition in private collection – 10 years, licence to possess firearm, and permit to possess ammunition in public collection – 10 years; licence to possess a firearm for business purposes such as business in hunting – five years; licence to possess firearm for business purposes such as business other than in hunting – two years
