Support AMCARE

AMCARE needs the help of the community.

“HELPING others and making a real difference is what I live for,” said Gavin Lewis from AMCARE.

AMCARE Centre for Faith, Hope and Love is in need of the community’s help with its Feed a Family Donations initiative.

Five teams from AMCARE will be at intersections on Saturday, 26 March, from 10:00 to 14:00, wearing red shirts and collecting funds to feed a number of families. Feeding one family costs R550 per month.

Community members can also collect a ‘love bucket’ from AMCARE and fill it once a month.

This bucket consists of a basic-needs list as well as a wish list.

The basic needs are rice, tea, salt, peanut butter, mixed vegetables, baked beans, pilchards, soup, oil, Vaseline, mabele meal, sugar and maize meal. Jam, two-minute noodles, biscuits, fruits and sweets fall under the wish list.

Community members who want to help with this do not need to take the bucket in each and every time. “The bucket needs to stay in their kitchen or living room as a reminder.”

Gavin Hendry came up with this idea. Members from AMCARE told the RECORD that their main focus is to bring in food and then divide it between certain families.

They have five to six walk-ins daily. They also help organisations, support groups, families and orphans.

Gavin also told the RECORD about an Indian family whose members do not celebrate their birthdays with parties, but celebrate it by giving food to AMCARE.

For more information, or if anyone would like to assist on the day, they can contact Joey Coetzee on 071 365 2191 and Gavin Hendry on 082 457 0671.

AMCARE will be collecting at the following intersections:

*Corner Michelle and Jochen van Bruggen avenues, Randhart (opposite Meyersdal Shopping Centre and Sasol garage).

*Corner Hennie Alberts and Rae Frankel streets, Brackenhurst (opposite Brackenhurst Shopping Centre).
