Meyersdal mom reaching for her dreams
Nomsa Masoka is a Meyersdal resident with a dream to be Mrs South Africa.
NOMSA Masoka, a Meyersdal resident, has progressed to the top 100 contestants in the Mrs South Africa beauty competition.
Nomsa entered the competition online with the aim to raise awareness of autism within the community.
Nomsa is a registered speech and language therapist who has operated from her own practice for the last 16 years. She runs a support group at Natalspruit Hospital for parents with children diagnosed with autism.
Her cause has a deeply personal connection. Nomsa’s eldest child was diagnosed with autism at two years old. She spoke on the difficulty she experienced, “People in the community don’t always understand. We became very isolated as a family. We lost friends. I entered this competition to prove to myself and others that even if you have a child with special needs you can still pursue your passions.”
Nomsa has pursued her own passion for music and singing by recording a gospel album and two Afro-jazz songs. She will be involved in a march for autism awareness at Natalspruit Hospital on April 13 in honour of April, named as Autism Awareness Month.
Nomsa thanked her family and friends for their support.
