Thanks to AfriForum’s Alberton Neighbourhood watch, two hijacked vehicles were recently tracked down and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
In the first instance, the neighbourhood watch cooperated with a tracking company, SAPS, Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD) and the Klippoortjie Agricultural Holdings community to trace a hijacked Range Rover. This follows after AfriForum’s national safety network passed on information with regards to a hijacked vehicle to the above-mentioned institutions and action was taken accordingly. Two of the suspects were arrested and the rest are still at large.
In the second instance, the neighbourhood watch traced a hijacked truck on the R554. The suspects, however, had already fled. The company owning the truck was notified of the incident and the truck was returned to its rightful owners untouched.
“It is a big success and again shows what a good organised community with strong structures and an established network means to people in our country. A cooperative agreement with the SAPS, EMPD and local security firms is of the utmost importance to ensure a safer South Africa for everyone,” said Willie van Wyk, chairperson of AfriForum’s Alberton branch.
