Luck takes a lot of practise

“I love using my body, face or voice to tell a story,” says Nicquela de Kooker.

Nicquela de Kooker (8), from Alberton, is steadily making her way up in the entertainment industry.

Despite her young age de Kooker is dedicated to her performing career. She is also a Forever Changed brand ambassador

Here are some questions that were put to Nicquela during an interview, and her answers.

1. Why do you want to be a performer?

I love acting and dancing, the more I train in the performing arts, the more excited I am to grow as a performer. I look forward to improving and learning new methods. “All the world is a stage” and I love it!

2. How did you become interested in the performing arts?

I have loved performing since I can remember and would be able to repeat a movie scene without even thinking about it. It was only when I was scouted by Addi Lang that I started taking it seriously and started training.

3. Who is your role model and why?

My mom is my role model, she believes in me and encourages me to do or become anything that I set my heart to.

4. What’s interesting about you?

I love all aspects of performing, acting, singing and dancing, I am a 360 degree performer. I’m not sure if this is interesting, but I love watching movies and making flapjacks for breakfast!

5. What sets you apart?

I take direction well and pick up scripts very quickly. I am known for being able to drop into any character with ease, often managing better than actors who are several years older than me.

6. Do you have a pet, and what’s your pet’s name?

I have a Yorkshire Terrier called Butter Ball. He is named after one of the characters from the Super Buddies Hero Movie. He is the cutest thing, we snuggle up together in the evenings, he watches me practise my roles.

7. What’s your favourite subject at school and why?

I attend drama and singing; they are my favourite subjects and I get to improve on my ability.

8. What type of performer would you like to be when you’re older?

When I am older I would like to pursue a career in theatre, as it allows me to perform in multiple genres. It often includes acting, singing and dancing simultaneously, the three aspects of performing that I truly enjoy.

9. What’s your favourite movie?

I love any animated movie, especially where the princess is the hero.

10. What do you love most about being a performer?

I love using my body, face or voice to tell a story and, through this, being able to take people on a journey.
