Desjuané update

Desjuané Farmer, who was badly injured by a dog-attack on Wednesday, December 9, has had another operation

DESJUANÉ Farmer, who was badly injured in a dog-attack on Wednesday, December 9, has had another operation.

On Wednesday, April 6, Desjuané endured a three-hour operation to implant an acrylic lens into her damaged right eye, which will hopefully restore some of the sight she had lost.

According to her mother, Hilda Sage, the doctors say the operation went quite well. “Now we have to wait and see how she heals – we’ll know more later. We take her to the doctor every week to check her progress,” Hilda said.

The attack on the little girl happened when a bull mastiff got out of its enclosure and attacked the girl. The dog was put down.

Further operations are needed, namely to remove the plates that were used to keep Desjuané’s skull in place, as it was shattered in the attack.

This operation is scheduled to take place in July.

The family is very grateful for all the support from the community and people from all over who have helped with financial aid, as the medical costs have been astronomical.

For anyone interested in assisting the family, they can deposit donations into the following account: Absa account number: 9313093818; Bank branch code: 6578; Account holder: R. Farmer; Reference: Desjuané.
