WHEN he walks into a room everyone takes notice, with his smoldering eyes and boyish charm.
Ruan van Biljon (21) from Alberton has been named as a finalist in the Mr Mardi Gras pageant for 2016.
The finalists will be competing for the coveted title at the Pink Loerie Arts & Culture Festival hosted from April 27 until May 1. The festival, which is set to take place in the wonderfully scenic town of Knysna, is geared to be a spectacularly colourful affair with this year’s theme of “Young at Heart & Never been Kissed.”
Ruan is described as a caring person with a very outgoing personality by the pageant, which makes him a likeable person and a likely front runner in the early stages of the competition. This brave young man is making strides in the community by focusing on the harsh reality of homelessness and the consequences arising from the increasing epidemic of unemployment within our society.
“I was quite blown away when they phoned me to tell me that I am a finalist. I entered not knowing much about Mr Mardi Gras, but soon came to realize that it is quite a big deal,” Ruan said.
The prizes for the winner include R20 000 cash, a weekend getaway for two, designer clothes, skin- and haircare products and many more. Most impressive of all is that the winner will represent South Africa in the Mr Gay World 2017 pageant – all expenses paid – taking place internationally.
