Door-to-door campaign held

THE Alberton South African Police Department held a door-to-door campaign recently to create awareness of crimes relating to substance abuse.

THE Alberton South African Police Department recently held a door-to-door campaign to create awareness of crimes related to substance abuse.

On April 13, the Alberton SAPS, in partnership with metro police, tavern owners, the liquor board and patrollers raised awareness of the dangers of substance abuse and how to obtain a legal licence to deal with liquor.

Pamphlets with safety tips on housebreaking, domestic violence, substance abuse, children’s safety, hijackings and how to carry cash safely were distributed.

“We noticed with concern that criminals are going around Sector Three late at night, hijacking cars and robbing foreign nationals’ shops. There are meetings held every Friday at Rondebult with the community where ideas for fighting crime are shared. The sector manager, W/O Gedion Mabaso, always attends the meetings and everyone is welcome to attend and give input. Someone, somewhere knows something and if that information can be shared with the police we can bring crime to a stop,” said communications officer, Sergeant Nkuna.
