ON Sunday, May 8, a man was arrested for reckless driving and it was found he had several serious cases pending against him.

“At around 00:15, myself and Constable Cindy Molopi were patrolling when a charcoal and silver double cab bakkie came flying over the stop street on the corner of Vermooten and Delphinium. I attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver picked up speed and switched off the vehicle’s lights,” said Constable Riaan Venter.

A nearby CPS (Community Protection Service) reaction vehicle noticed this and assisted the officers in chasing the suspect.

The SAPS (South African Police Service) and CPS Security managed to apprehend the driver in Mayberry Park. The driver, a 26-year-old male, was arrested for driving recklessly and also for being in possession of a silver 9mm pistol with 30 rounds of ammunition, and according to the officials, the serial number of the firearm does not exist and the ID number of the suspect did not show any record of owning this type of firearm.

“Upon profiling the suspect, we learnt that the suspect has pending cases against him, namely attempted murder, pointing of a firearm and the like,” added Constable Venter.
