Burglars empty out tavern

It seems that the burglar gained entry through the thatched roof.

THERE was no way the owner of a tavern in Studebaker Street, Eden Park could run his business on Tuesday, May 10.

It was business as usual for the tavern on Monday, May 9, and when the last customers left, the owner locked up.

The business was, however, cleaned out some time during that night and in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

Later on Tuesday morning, the owner arrived and discovered that the sliding door was broken and a hole had been made through the thatched roof.

It is alleged by the 46-year-old owner of Thabo’s Place that the burglars made a clean-sweep. “They took every bottle of spirit I had in the bar and even all the packs of ciders in the refrigerator. The total value of the liquor stolen can be estimated at about R2 500,” he said.

“By sheer luck, on Tuesday midday I had a suspect. I have opened a case with Eden Park SAPS and the law must just take its course now,” said the owner.
