AN EMPD Unit member must be credited with the apprehension of two thieves, on Tuesday, May 17, who allegedly stole a horse-and-trailer.
After responding to the report of a jack-knifed truck on the N12 freeway westbound, within the Reading Interchange just before the Comaro turnoff, the unit member followed a hunch and enquired about the truck.
It emerged that the Scania horse-and-trailer was stolen in Benoni in 2015.
The Scania truck’s trailer was empty and the two male occupants of the vehicle claimed that they were en route to Johannesburg to pick up a cargo of groceries when it ran out of diesel. They were immediately arrested and the truck was towed to the SAPS Van RynVehicle Pound in Benoni, by SAPS Theft Unit members.
According to EMPD spokesperson Lieut Col Wilfred M Kgasago, the 27-year-old man, who claimed he was the driver, and his 25-year-old passenger, from Zambia, were charged at the Benoni Police Station, for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
They are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 18.
