EKURHULENI Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has introduced new fuel consumption regulatory measures to monitor and control fuelling activities as part of its fleet management strategy.
The electronic fuel management system is being installed in the city’s vehicles and is set to ensure efficient utilization of fuel resources.
The fitment process is currently being rolled out to over 4 000 council owned vehicles set to be fitted with the device for over a multi-year period through inter-dependent phases and the process is expected to be completed by June 2017.
Successful implementation of the system will anchor a new era of technological innovation in the management of fuel activities, thus placing the city on par with industry practices.
The R30-million project is a step in the direction to instill a sense of accountability on the part of the city.
The first phase of fitment is focusing on departments providing critical services, such as emergency, waste, buses as well as the metro police department.
