Taxi holding area ready to roll
“Our Taxi Holding Area is already erected and was done in accordance with the various requirements set out by the council and the City of Jo’burg and is ready to go after all processes have been completed. New taxi routes have to be determined and allocated before we can open the Taxi Holding Area,” said management.
AFTER recent reports of an ‘illegal’ taxi rank situated outside Mall of the South, Swartkoppies Road, doing its rounds on Facebook, Comaro CHRONICLE interviewed Mall of the South’s management.
“Our taxi holding area is already erected and was done in accordance with the various requirements set out by the council and the City of Joburg and is ready to go after all processes have been completed. New taxi routes have to be determined and allocated before we can open the taxi holding area,” said management.
“Departments are still in negotiations, including the Transport System Management; Transport Department of City of Joburg and Director Executive and Strategic Support Office of the Gauteng Provincial Department of Roads. As soon as we have the go-ahead from them we can then enter into an agreement with the taxi associations and we will know which associations we are dealing with. The taxi holding area within Mall of the South was built before the centre opened its doors and the taxi transport route determination was done.
“We are eager to have the taxi holding area open as soon as possible. Everything is in order from our side, including a direct undercover pathway from the centre to the taxi holding area, as well as bathroom facilities.
“We will not risk opening the taxi holding area until the process has been finalised, as this could lead to serious and dangerous problems between the various associations,” concluded management.
