Victim knocks down two robbers

Former boxer knocked both his attackers to the ground and gave chase when they ran off

TWO would-be robbers met their match in Jacob Mabena (44), from Eden Park, on Monday, May 23, at about 10:30.

When they pounced on their prey at a short cut between the community hall and the reservoir, and grabbed Jacob by his throat, the former boxer retaliated with a counter-attack and knocked down both of them.

“When they approached me, I realised that one of them was armed and so I walked on the side of the unarmed robber,” Mabena said.

”When he grabbed me by the throat I started punching them and, in a minute, they were both down. When they got up they started to run, but I chased after them

“I stopped a motorist to help with the chase and we finally caught them in Benz Street.

”I took the two suspects to the police station and opened a case of attempted robbery.”

The suspects were locked up and appeared in the Palmridge Magistrate Court on Tuesday, May 24.
