Youth Day celebrations in Eden Park
People gathered at Opelweg Primary for a day of celebrations
OPELWEG Primary was the place to be on Thursday, June 16 with youth gathering in great numbers to celebrate and commemorate the 1976 Soweto youth uprising.
The local taxi rank had for years been identified as the venue for celebrating this important event by the youth and the community.
Visitors from places like Eldorado Park arrived in buses to join the local youth who celebrated the day with members of Patriotic Alliance (PA). The venue was shifted from the taxi rank to Opelweg Primary’s soccer field where visitors listened to a number of speeches and participated in various games played throughout the day.
