NATIONAL NEWS: Man seriously injured

It is believed that the heavy rain was a contributing factor to the cause of the collision.

A 52-year-old man was recently left seriously injured  after his light motor vehicle crashed into a light pole on the N12 outside Potchefstroom.

ER24 paramedics received the call at 04:50 and immediately responded through the heavy rain.

Upon arrival, paramedics found a light motor vehicle sitting on the centre medium wrapped around a light pole. Closer inspection of the vehicle showed that the driver lay trapped inside his vehicle in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use specialised tools to free the patient in an operation that lasted for 30 minutes.

Once he was freed, paramedics treated the man and provided him with numerous advanced life support interventions. He was then transported to Potchefstroom Provincial hospital for urgent care.
