Four councillors honoured as aldermen

Aldermanship bestowed on local councillors.

FOUR Alberton councillors had the title of alderman bestowed on them by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council.

The metro conferred the City Honours of Aldermanship on serving councillors who have made an exceptional contribution in service to the people of Ekurhuleni, during the last council meeting of this term, on Thursday, July 21.

The group of councillors included Alberton’s Izak Berg, Bruna Haipel, Estelle Visser and Neil Diamond.

Berg was honoured for his 15 years of service to residents of Ekurhuleni as a councillor. In the last 10 years in council, he was also the party leader, as the national chairman of IRASA.

Neil Diamond has also served 15 years as a councillor and held the position of chairman of finance during the past term of office.

Councillors Estelle Visser and Bruna Haipel were also honoured for their excellent service of 21 years.

This is the first time since 2000 that the Ekurhuleni Metro has conferred the title of Alderman on deserving councillors, who will retain these titles for life, even after they leave public office.
