Tall lights erected to curb crime

“AS a Councillor I just had to do something about the notorious open veld between Eden Park and Palmridge where residents are frequently robbed.
“For the past three years many residents had complained to me about the early morning and late night robberies where people going to work and coming home fall victim to robbers. I arranged with EMM and two high-mast lights have been erected,” said Councillor Robert Pienaar.
A resident from Leon Street, whose house faces the open veld, said, “I hear daily how people scream and cry as robbers attack them to take cellphones, cash and handbags. I especially pity women who have to pass through this veld in the dark. The bright lights may deter the robbers, who I think are mostly drug addicts,” he said. The resident did not want to be named because she fears for her safety.
Pienaar, who has now reached the end of his term in office as a Councillor of Ward 58, also made mention of similar high-mast lights erected in Jackson Street near the Eden Park Cemetery.
