Remembering the role played by brave women

Speakers praised the women who marched together 60 years ago, to free all women.

ON August 9, 1956, about 20 000 women of all races made history in the struggle for freedom.

It was on this day that these women marched to the Union Building in Pretoria, to deliver petitions to then Prime Minister JG Strijdom, against the carrying of passes by women.

Women of the Christian Faith Centre (CFC) invited women from different denominations to celebrate this year’s Women’s Day with them.

The church’s pastor, Nicky van Heerden, though present, played no role in the running of the event, as everything was in the hands of women.
