THE owner of a tavern in Palmridge Extension 2 and a member of the metro police were shot dead by robbers on Sunday, August 21.
According to the Eden Park SAPS, the tavern owner was shot by robbers. He then called out to his metro police friend for help, but, unfortunately, the officer was also shot.
The owner was rushed to a nearby hospital but died on his way to hospital. The wounded metro police officer was rushed to Netcare Mulbarton Hospital, where he later died.
Back at the scene, a second police vehicle arrived to move the suspects from the scene.
Police reported that three of the suspects were arrested and a firearm, with a filed off serial number, was found. It is suspected that the firearm was used in previous armed robberies.
A murder and business robbery case was opened and police are currently investigating.
