EKURHULENI Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing cables on Tuesday, September 27.
At about 15:00 the EMPD Alberton precinct officers busy with law enforcement activities on the R59 freeway, direction north, stopped a suspicious 4.5 ton Nissan Cabster truck full of electric steel wires. Upon investigation, it was found that the licence disc of the defective truck expired six months ago and was not genuine (clearance certificate).
The aggressive and non-cooperative 55-year-old male driver with two male passengers aged 23 and 29 had no proper documents for the load and alleged that they were offered more than six tons of steel wires by a neighbour in Vereeniging.
The trio was subsequently arrested and detained at Brackendowns Police Station on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and a fraudulent document. They are expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
Issued by: Lieutenant Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD media liaison officer.
