Learners from Alberton High School spend their time at Wokutakula Wildlife Education for a good cause on Sunday, October 23.
The learners helped prepare the sanctuary for a little girl’s birthday, Zanerique Toerien (7), who has a cancerous tumour in her brain. Zanerique’s doctor at the Johannesburg General Hospital has informed her parents that there is nothing more they can do for the little girl.
The learners decorated the area with balloons and provided snacks. The little girl landed with a helicopter at the sanctuary.
“We were told that Zanerique no longer has months left but rather days. It’s a very sad story and we are very blessed to have spent the day with her,” said Carol Roberts, marketing officer from Alberton High School.
Zanerique was in Grade One at Laerskool Horison and lives in Roodepoort.
The parents told Good Morning Angels from Jacaranda FM that both of them had to leave their jobs as their daughter needs them by her side. Both parents have committed their time to their daughter, and want to spend every possible waking moment with her. This means, they have no income. There are the regular monthly expenses, as well as Zanerique’s medication of R2 000 per month the family needs to cover. Most of all, the parents want to make Zanerique’s last few days special and aim to make all her wishes come true.
