Electric fence wires cut again

They further told the RECORD that they also noticed several places where the wires or razor wire was broken and cut.

Electric fence wires were cut in Meyersdal on November 18, for the second consecutive night.

“We took a walk in the veld to see what we could find and the first thing we noticed was a vagrant sitting in the veld under a tree, dressed all in black and carrying two bags,” said members of the Meyersdal Residents Security Forum (MRSF), who did not want to be named.

”What came to mind is that he may be a homeless person, but then again, he may also be a spotter for burglars. When he saw us coming he jumped up and suddenly pretended he was looking for firewood.”

They further told the RECORD that they also noticed several places where the wires or razor wire was broken and cut.

“We also noticed attempts to break in through the bricks by breaking out bricks in the walls and, finally, we also could see definite signs of markings being left behind by burglars for when they return,” they said.

“The lower walls seem to be more of a problem, giving easier access to property, whereas high walls with razor wire, electric fencing, lighting and CCTV are all good ways to deter intrusion from the veld side.”
