UPDATE: Bomb squad arrives in Mall at Newmarket

The bomb squad has arrived at the mall and the centre is now being searched.

Earlier this afternoon, Alberton SAPS received a call reporting two bomb threats at the Mall of Newmarket, Alberton.

The police, CPS Security and the K9 unit have been on the scene for a couple of hours searching the mall for any possible threats. The bomb squad has arrived at the mall and the centre is now being searched.

Seemingly shoppers knew nothing but were told to evacuate. One person, however, says he heard that a suspicious package was found, but this has not been  confirmed.

A local resident who was at the scene earlier, stated that it was absolute panic with the car parks emptying, people evacuating the mall.
