ALBERTON has been experiencing worrying levels of crime of late and there seem to be no signs of its letting up.
Within just a few days, there have been several business robberies, some of which led to fatalities and several injuries, a rape and stabbing, shootouts, and more.

Perhaps even more worrying is that nobody seems to know about some of the incidents.

One incident that did not make headlines happened on Thursday, March 23, at about 18:45 when 4th Dimensions Security received a call in Brackendowns. “Upon arrival at the scene, they found a female whose hands and feet were bound to the outside toilet,” said Lindi Moloi, spokesperson for the Brackendowns police.

National Paramedics declared her dead on the scene. One suspect was found on the premises, arrested and charged with murder, while another suspect got away.
The apprehended suspect appeared at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 27, returning on Friday, March 31 for his bail application and the next court appearance took place on Friday, April 7.

Over the last few months, many in Alberton have commented (some in jest, others not) that there must be a serial killer around – after the body of murdered Ané Jacobs was found and, soon after that, several other bodies followed; until now, no information could be coaxed from the police regarding these cases.
Now it seems like crime is reaching shocking proportions with these types of incidents occurring daily.

According to Nardus Hollander from CPS Security, this is a common trend as we approach the Easter holidays. “There has been an increase in cash-in-transit heists, hijackings and business robberies. We urge all residents to please be vigilant and take the opportunity to test your panic buttons and alarm systems,” says Hollander.
RECORD again afforded the Alberton police the opportunity to comment, but they did not respond.
