Watch your wallet while you shop

“Most store security guards are stationed at the entrance so inside the store there is limited security."

FIDELITY ADT Security is urging all shoppers to be careful with their belongings following an increase in pickpocketing in stores.

Sam Cretten, community development manager for Fidelity ADT, says criminals are targeting shoppers whose bags are open with purses exposed, bags put in shopping trolleys and so on.

“Most store security guards are stationed at the entrance so inside the store there is limited security. It is important to be conscious of people around you, keep your bag zipped up, wallets in front pants pockets, and never put your bag in a trolley.

“Make sure your cellphone is out of sight, as well as any cash that you may be carrying,” she says.

Report any suspicious individuals lurking around in the store to the store manager or security.
