AN Eden Park pastor died in hospital after a suicide attempt. The attempt followed accusations that he raped a 15-year-old girl.
Eden Park SAPS reported that they were summoned to the local clinic regarding a rape of the girl.
According to Capt Vusi Mhlophe, while the girl was taken to the Thelle Mogoerane Hospital in Vosloorus, the accused went home, took a knife and tried to cut his throat and he also set the bedroom on fire.
“When our officers arrived at the house, they found the man outside with the bloodied knife, a cut to his throat and badly burnt but still breathing. The man was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died on September 12 – a day after his suicide attempt,” Mhlophe said.
The police further reported that the mother of the girl gave a statement that her daughter woke her up at about 3.30am complaining of vaginal pains as if someone had sex with her.
“We are now puzzled by the outcome from the hospital. According to the report from the doctor, they could not find any proof of penetration or sexual assault. We are waiting for the results of further tests,” Mhlophe said.
