A HANDWRITING expert testified in the South Gauteng High Court on October 10 that the signature of Odette Barkhuizen (43), who was gunned down and killed on June 11, 2015, was forged in her last will and testament.
George Barkhuizen is on trial for allegedly killing his wife, Odette, at their business premises in Oakdene, Johannesburg South.
Johannes Hattingh, a retired forgery expert, told the court he’d compared a sample of Odette’s signature on her will and found it had been forged. He also stated signatures from policy documents in comparison to the will were totally different.
Barkhuizen faces charges of murder, fraud, unlawful possession of a firearm and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
Odette was shot twice and died on the scene in what was first thought to be an attempted hijacking. Her vehicle was stolen but found a few hours later not far from where she was murdered.
Barkhuizen became the prime suspect in the case.
The case continues today, October 11.
