Five drug dealers arrested

Germiston Crime Prevention Unit arrested five suspects in the Alberton area for dealing in drugs.

ALBERTON – Word that the Alberton area was being infiltrated by drug-dealers spurred EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Unit members into action and on Friday October 25.

Between 18:00 and 22:00, five suspects were apprehended. A variety of drugs including cocaine, crystal meth and dagga valued at approximately R43 000 were confiscated. The arrests were made in the suburbs of New Redruth, Mayberry Park, Brackenhurst and Brackendowns.

In Randhart, on Jacqueline Avenue around 20:30, two Nigerian nationals were found in possession of twenty-eight packets of cat worth R7 000, rocks valued at R6 000 and one gram of cocaine worth R300. The pair was charged at Brackendowns Police Station.

Deeper into the night at around 21:00 at the intersection of Vermooten and Almore streets in Brackenhurst, two male occupants of a green VW Golf, also Nigerians, were arrested after they were found in possession of one kilogram of crystal meth estimated at R6 000.

Following-up on a tip-off received around 21:30, the Metro Police arrested a 26-year-old male in a house in Topez Street in Mayberry Park for possession and dealing in dagga. He was found with seven packets of dagga worth R70.

All five suspects appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 28 to face charges of possessing and dealing in illicit substances.
