THE judge for the Jarred Silverman trial has denied him leave to appeal.
Jarred Silverman was recently found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to five years imprisonment.
On January 19, the court heard from the defence why Silverman should be granted leave to appeal and in turn from the state who opposed the application.

The case arose after a shooting that took place at the Deep in the Woods Music Festival in 2014, where several people were wounded, most seriously of which was Silverman himself.
Silverman’s defence strongly relied upon the fact that there was no ballistics nor forensic evidence to suggest that the victim was shot by the gun that Silverman had fired and that it was more likely from the gun fired by the police reservist that shot five shots at Silverman, bullets travelling through his body and hitting bystanders.

The judge listened to the defence’s argument until finally saying that regardless of all these facts, Silverman’s attitude and seeming lack of remorse were problems as well as his actions on that day, taking a firearm to a music festival, etc, claiming this showed intent.

Silverman was remanded back into custody, but not before his defence stated that it planned on going to the high court to challenge the judgement.
