CPS Security pulled out all the stops again and helped fight crime in Alberton. The RECORD shares three recent stories of crime successfully conquered by CPS.
Infamous car thieves arrested in Randhart
On the morning of March 16, an off-duty police officer informed CPS’s operations manager about a suspicious black Mercedes that was circling Laerskool Randhart.
He requested assistance from CPS to help stop and search the vehicle, which they did. They also discovered that false number plates had been stuck onto the original number plates.

Car break-in implements were found in the car, such as Allen keys, gloves, screwdrivers and various computer boxes for other cars. In total, three suspects (all from the Eldorado Park area) were arrested for the possession of car break-in implements.
According to CPS, this gang had been operating in the area for quite a while but kept changing their getaway vehicles.
Alberton SAPS was contacted and the suspects were taken into custody. The suspects are still detained and are awaiting their next court appearance.
Lending a helping hand at Heidelberg Road shootout
A high-speed chase and shootout occurred at Heidelberg Road in the afternoon of March 17, after a Fidelity cash van was bombed and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash.
One of the getaway cars, a white Audi A5, made its way through Alberton and one of CPS’s tactical units picked it up. The vehicle was left abandoned in Piet Retief Street and the suspect fled on foot.

Two AK47 rifles and a Smith and Wesson pistol were recovered in the vehicle. The Audi had been hijacked in Lyttleton some time ago.
“Unfortunately, the suspects got away, but at least these dangerous weapons are off the streets,” said Tyrone van der Merwe on behalf of CPS.
According to Alberton SAPS, the second getaway car, a white Golf GTI, was recovered and four suspects were apprehended at the Golden Walk Mall in Germiston.
Armed car thieves busted at Alberton Crossing
During a routine patrol on March 22, one of CPS’s tactical units spotted a white Toyota Corolla which they had been searching for, for weeks. According to CPS, this specific car was involved in several car thefts in the Alberton area.
The vehicle was stopped and searched at the Alberton Crossing shopping centre. Car break-in implements and two handguns were found.

Alberton SAPS took the suspects into custody and charged them. Upon further investigation, it was also found that this specific group of suspects had been involved in other crimes, such as business robberies.
“A job well done,” said Tyrone van der Merwe on behalf of CPS.
