Four arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm

Johannesburg Flying Squad and members of the Johannesburg K9 Unit arrested four suspects believed to be on their way to Alberton.

Johannesburg Flying Squad and members of the Johannesburg K9 Unit followed up information about suspects en route to commit a robbery in Alberton on April 4.

The members spotted the vehicle, a white Isuzu bakkie, driving on Heidelberg Road in City Deep and pounced, searched the vehicle and found one unlicensed 9mm Z88 pistol with serial numbers filed off.

Four suspects were arrested and the firearm and vehicle were confiscated.

UNLICENSED: The firearm recovered from the suspects.

Investigations continue to determine whether the suspects are linked to other crimes.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 37, will be appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
