Fire leads to abalone find in Randhart
Abalone to the value of R200 000 was found when Hui Wei Kitchen, a Chinese take away in Randhart, caught fire.
RANDHART – At about 11:00 today the Chinese take away at Randhart Shopping Centre on General Alberts Avenue caught fire while the owner was inside.
The electricity of the shop next door tripped and the owners went to investigate what was wrong. They saw that the shop next door was burning.
They knocked and shouted at the owner to open for them so that they can assist him but he refused. Upon threats that they will break the door down he opened the back door to let the owners from the neighbouring shop in. He then left through front door, locking it behind him.
Fire fighters were called and the fire was
extinguished. It was then discovered that the cause of fire was the drying fans which were used to dry the abalone.
A large number was recovered. The total units of abalone is 1 824 with a total weight of 124.262 kg and a street value of R200 000.
No one was arrested and a case was opened for investigation by the organized crime.
