It is not load shedding

Councillor for ward 38 explains the electricity concerns

Electricity problems do affect certain parts in Alberton area but as concerns are raised, there are sometimes reasons why this happens.

Estelle Visser (councillor for ward 38) explained, “It is not load shedding. There could be problems with cable theft. Sometimes sub-stations may be vandalized or sometimes it could be normal breakage in the sub-stations, because of wear and tear.”

Estelle also explained that some residents with prepaid meters believe that if they do not pay rates and taxes, that they will still have electricity but the electricity department can block the prepaid meters from functioning. What is important for ratepayers is to realise, that they must pay their full accounts to avoid this problem.

Almost five years ago, rates and taxes were seen as a separate item from services such as water and electricity bills, but now they are actually seen as one.

Residents need to make sure to follow up their accounts and pay within the time limits as set by council, in order to avoid any further complications.

Should there be a problem with regards to electricity cuts and outages and your Ekurhuleni bill is paid in full, please contact the Ekurhuleni Call Centre 086 054 3000 and if you do not find joy please e-mail you problem to your ward councillor, Michael Basch (michael@phoenixrising.co.za), Bruna Haipel (bruna.haipel@absamail.co.za) or Estelle Visser (estellev@absamail.co.za).
