Help for gunshot victim needed

ZEBEDEE Kok, an Alberton resident, is recovering in Milpark Hospital after being shot in a shootout at a quarry in Reigerpark on June 13 at about 9.45pm.

He works as an recovery officer for a vehicle tracking and recovery company.

Alongside his partner, he responded to a call at a quarry and upon arrival, a shootout broke out between the suspects and the two recovery agents. During the shootout, Zebedee received a bullet to his leg which fractured his left femur and cut one of the main arteries supplying blood to the leg. One suspect was killed and another was wounded.

Zebedee was rushed to Sunward Park Hospital where he was stabilised. He was airlifted to Milpark Hospital to undergo the necessary surgery to repair his leg.

Initial reports were grim and there was a concern that Zebedee would lose his leg. Fortunately, the operation was a success and blood flow was restored to his left leg making amputation unnecessary. Unfortunately, due to complications with the wound, Zebedee has to remain under sedation and is yet to wake up. He is currently undergoing dialysis to remove toxins produced by the damaged tissue. The success of the dialysis will determine the next step in restoring his leg.

“Zeb is well-known in the community,” said Wendy Stidston, Zebedee’s fiancée.

“He is always in the front line to help people and was involved with numerous CPF events and has been a large supporter of the CPF, SAPS and Security Companies Alberton.”

Zebedee was also involved in the search for Eden Laird when he was kidnapped earlier this year.

“He leaves a mark wherever he goes,” she said.

“He is a fun-loving person and is always full of jokes. That is how people know him.”

Due to the expensive nature of the surgeries required for the restoration of Zebedee’s leg as well as other financial burdens during the recovery process, a funding campaign has been started to help with the costs.

People who are willing to make a contribution to the fund can go to https://www.backabuddy.co.za/zebbies-road-to-recovery.

All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Wendy has also asked that people take the time to donate blood to the National Blood Service.

“You don’t realise how valuable your blood can be to someone until you see someone who needs it.”
