UPDATE: Syndicate group arrested in Meyersdal

Brackendowns SAPS is busy with the investigation.

FOUR men have been arrested on October 14 by CPS Security in Hennie Alberts Street in Meyersdal.

This specific syndicate group has been stealing outdoor detection beams from properties in the Alberton area.

“We reacted to an alarm signal and that is when we saw a car speeding away. We chased the car to stop and search it. We found unlicensed ammunition, break in implements and two detector beams in their vehicle,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, sales director from CPS.

They were arrested on charges of being in possession of unlicensed ammunition, stolen goods and break-in implements.

These men have been targeting properties that are easy to access to steal outdoor detectors which are worth about R3 000. On further investigation it was found that they are working for a security company and they steal these detectors to re-sell them. Brackendowns SAPS are busy with the investigation and more information will be published as soon as it is available. Van der Merwe told the RECORD that he knows of 10 different cases where outdoor detectors got stolen and he urges residents who have been affected to go to Brackendowns SAPS to link the previous cases.

STOLEN: This was found in their vehicle.

“The suspects did operate in the Pretoria area as well but got away. They target different areas monthly. Well done to all involved in making this arrest,” van der Merwe added.
