Glenview Primary learners do their bit for the planet

Finalists are required to work alongside Mpact at schools and in communities to promote recycling.

GLENVIEW Primary School received a special visit from Mpact Recycling mascot Ronnie Recycler and Jo-Ann Barnwell, one of the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa Pageant finalists, on October 31.

The purpose of the visit was to create awareness about the importance of recycling and to encourage all 1 130 Glenview learners to take care of the planet.

On this particular day, learners were given Ronnie bags ahead of the visit, to fill up with paper and cardboard. Ronnie and Jo-Ann helped them empty their little bags into bulk bags – in the end, two bulk bags were filled.

In the school hall, five volunteers were selected to go on stage to sort through a pile of recyclables. These were sorted according to paper, newspaper, magazines, cardboard and milk and juice cartons. Volunteers were then rewarded with Ronnie badges and pencils which Jo-Ann handed out.

It was an insightful morning for all. In conclusion, Jo-Ann said: “I felt so filled with love, gratitude and happiness, being in the presence of those children and making a small but significant difference with the help of Mpact, Tammy Taylor Nails and the pageant. A big thank you goes out to Glenview for having us.”
