Klassen murder trial set to begin in June 2019

Van Wyk intends to plead not guilty at the trial.

ADRIAN van Wyk, the man accused of murdering Melonique Klassen in March, appeared for a pre-trial court appearance in Johannesburg High Court on November 9.

The case was confirmed for the trial to take place on June 3, 2019, in the Johannesburg High Court.

During the reading of the minutes of the pre-trial, the judge confirmed that van Wyk intends to plead not guilty to the charges laid against him. Van Wyk is charged with four counts. The counts are murder, theft, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

During the trial, which is scheduled to take 15 days, the state intends to call more than 10 witnesses to the stand. The defence at this time only intends to call the accused to the stand.

Van Wyk remains in custody.

COMMUNITY: Monique Klassen’s family and concerned residents of Eden Park came to the court on July 31 seeking justice for the murder hearing. They wore white T-shirts with the photograph of Melonique imprinted on them.
