THE case against the two suspects accused of murdering Gert Hitzeroth (54) on May 19 in Mayberry Park has been provisionally withdrawn until DNA test results are ready.
The suspects appeared in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on November 15. On May 19, Gert went out for drinks with three family members. The four of them later left with the suspect to his house for more drinks. This is where an altercation ensued before the accused allegedly retrieved a baseball bat and allegedly hit Hitzeroth over the head several times. The crime scene was allegedly cleaned up and the weapon allegedly hidden away by the time the police arrived at the house.

The male suspect, aged 39, was charged with murder. The female suspect, aged 37, was later arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice. This has since been converted to a murder charge.
They were released on bail of R15 000 and R5 000 respectively on May 28.
The suspects applied to have their bail terms changed, and this was granted. They are required to report to the Brackendowns SAPS on Tuesdays and Fridays. Previously, they were expected to appear at the same police station on Mondays and Fridays.
After this, the trial continued on September 21, where the case was postponed to November 15, so that blood and DNA tests could be completed.
On November 15, the case was withdrawn.
According to a local, credible attorney, who wishes to remain anonymous, this may take a few months, but once the results are clear, the case will be reinstated on the roll.
Until then, the two accused are free.
The RECORD approached the accused and their family for any comment, but they refused.
Wayne Hitzeroth, son of the late Gert, said: “We’re very angry. He threw us a middle finger, probably because he thinks the case has been withdrawn for good, but he’ll get the shock of his life when the case gets reinstated and the two of them get arrested again. We all look forward to the day that justice will prevail for our dad.”
