Baby Eden’s case postponed to January

The case has been postponed for final closure of the investigation.

THE kidnapping case of baby Eden will continue on January 28, 2019.

All five suspects will remain in custody and also spent their first Christmas in jail. They reappeared in court on December 11 on charges of kidnapping and blackmailing.

Cleopatra Manjankozi (domestic worker), Kholwani Nyathi, Amos Moyo, Manduna Nonkanyiso and Nelisini Gabela was arrested on May 5 after the kidnapping of Eden Laird. Manjankosi took Eden, tied up on her back, for a walk from the family’s house in Brackendowns on May 2 at about 8.45am and did not return.

The suspects demanded a R6-million ransom for the baby’s safe return. Police set up a sting operation which led to Eden being found in Windmill Park near Boksburg during that weekend and he was safely home in his parents’ arms on May 5.

This is also the first court case where Nonkanyiso had her aunt looking after her baby as the magistrate said that children do not belong in court.

The case has been postponed for final closure of the investigation.
