Rain interrupts Night Market
AMCARE's annual Night Market held on Friday night, November 29, came to an abrupt halt at about 18:00 when the heavens open with pouring rain causing stallholders and visitors alike to run for cover.
ALBERTON – This event is one of the main fundraising events for AMCARE, a multi-purpose health and social development organization servicing poor and vulnerable persons in the Greater Alberton area of Ekurhuleni.
“We want to thank each and every person who supported us. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play along, but we did manage to at least cover our costs,” says Percy Howroyd, AMCARE administrator. “We’ve also already started putting a plan together to prevent this from happening again,” he explains. Negotiations are under way to have tents erected at all future markets on the AMCARE premises.
Food left over was used for the Christmas parties held for orphaned and vulnerable children in neighbouring communities. AMCARE hosts several of these parties over December and the food came in handy, assuring the children were treated to a Christmas feast of note.
Members of the public are invited to purchase a light bulb for the Tree of Remembrance switched on on Friday night. The lights will stay on for the entire December season. Kindly contact Eurika at the AMCARE offices 011 869 5856.
