The male suspect was found with a licensed 9mm pistol and a safe kept contrary to the provisions of the Firearms Control Act of 2000.

ON February 1, the SAPS Ekurhuleni West Cluster sought the assistance of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit to attend to a house at Palm Ridge Extension Four near Eden Park suspected of being used to peddle drugs.

EMPD swooped on the house around 5.45am and uncovered dagga valued at over R2 000. The male suspect was found with a licensed 9mm pistol and a safe kept contrary to the provisions of the Firearms Control Act of 2000.

One hundred and forty-four ziplock bags of dagga and over 200g of loose dagga in a plastic bag valued at over R2 000 was seized, as well as cash suspected of being proceeds from the illicit sales of dagga.

A licensed 9mm pistol belonging to the suspect was found under the bed as well as a small safe which was not secured to a wall or a floor. The seized dagga and cash, the confiscated firearm with magazines and 15 live rounds, and the loose safe were booked in at Eden Park Police Station.

The 39-year-old suspect was charged at Eden Park Police Station for possession and dealing in dagga with an additional charge in terms of the Firearms Control Act of 2000, Section 86 subsection (12) (e).

He is expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court today (February 4).
