The Academic Support Centre is open to all learners at the school who may need it – from three months old to matric.

ON February 1, Waterstone College welcomed two new centres to their school – an Academic Support Centre and The Oasis Resource/Media Centre.

The Academic Support Centre is open to all learners at the school who may need it – from three months old to matric. It is also open to the community at large – regardless of whether they are involved with Waterstone College or not – by appointment.

School staff and parents will/can also receive training from the various therapists and qualified mentors involved with this new centre.

This centre offers educational psychology, counselling, remedial teaching, speech therapy, occupational therapy (including specialised sensory integration), Mind Moves, EQ (emotional intelligence), audiology and vision screenings.

Furthermore, The Oasis Resource/Media Centre is open for Waterstone’s high school learners. This is a place where learners can come to read from a wide variety of books, have meetings, do research on the centre’s computers or simply relax on the beanbags and chat in their “oasis”.

In agreement with Vernon Rorich (Waterstone College’s executive head) and Simone Bock (head of Waterstone College), Jeanette Williams, head of the Academic Support Centre and the school’s foundation phase (Grade R to Grade Three), commented:

“Waterstone College deeply values each learner and wants each individual to be the best they can be, in each aspect of their lives. This is why no expense has been spared with these new centres. Waterstone College looks forward to many even more wonderful years with these new additions.”
