Ekurhuleni Flying Squad nabs Sassa scammers on the N3

The suspects were apprehended with devices that could possibly be used for counterfeiting and 240 SASSA cards.

EKURHULENI Flying Squad officers arrested two suspected Sassa scammers on the N3 on March 3.

While conducting routine patrols, the flying squad members Sgt Shashapa Mokoena and Conste Matome Khosa received a tip-off that a silver Toyota Fortuner with two suspects were heading their way.The car was tailed by police from Randburg but was lost. The officers saw the vehicle and swiftly stopped it.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers found two laptops, one fingerprint scanner, a copy machine, 240 Sassa cards and cash amounting to R231 920. The vehicle was allegedly hired at a car rental at OR Tambo International Airport.

The two suspects aged between 32 and 42, were arrested and charged with possession of stolen Sassa cards and money laundering.

Police are currently investigating, and the suspects are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court Soon.
